Little Big Details

I can't summarize this content because it doesn't appear to be a saved article. It's a list of UI/UX design details and microinteractions from various platforms (Twitter, Google, Outlook, Slack, etc.), presented as disconnected bullet points rather than a cohesive piece with an argument or narrative. To write a meaningful summary, I'd need an actual article—something that makes a sustained argument, reports on findings, or tells a story that has a discernible beginning, middle, and end.

CSS-Tricks

Using CSS without HTML | CSS-Tricks

HTML elements like `<html>`, `<head>`, and `<body>` are optional in source code because browsers automatically generate them, meaning they can still be styled with CSS even when absent. The author demonstrates this by creating a webpage with zero HTML content, instead delivering all styling through an HTTP `Link` header (defined in RFC 5988) that references an external stylesheet, which generates and styles the implied elements using CSS pseudo-elements. While these techniques are clever explorations of browser behavior, they're impractical for real websites due to quirks mode rendering, validation failures, and lack of widespread browser support for the Link header.

5 Useful Tools to Track Twitter Unfollowers

This article surveys five web tools for tracking Twitter unfollowers and analyzing follower dynamics, including Friend or Follow (which identifies non-reciprocal followers), TwUnfollow (which sends email alerts when users unfollow you), TwitterCounter (which graphs follower trends and growth predictions), Goodbye, Buddy! (which sends humorous direct messages about unfollowers), and TweetEffect (which correlates specific tweets with follower gains and losses). The piece suggests these services can help users understand when and why people stop following them, though it emphasizes that Twitter metrics shouldn't be mistaken for real-world success or popularity.

Moving your iTunes Library to a New Hard Drive

This guide explains how to properly move an iTunes library to a new location—whether to an external drive, secondary internal drive, or new computer—by distinguishing between the iTunes library database (the index file) and the iTunes Media folder (the actual content files). The key insight is that iTunes stores full file paths in its database, so manually moving files will break those links; instead, users should use iTunes' "Consolidate Files" feature, which copies files to the new location while updating the database references. The article also covers iTunes' distinction between "managed" files (stored in the iTunes Media folder and controlled by iTunes) and "referenced" files (stored elsewhere and merely pointed to by iTunes), explaining how this affects relocation options and whether users can preserve their own file organization.

20 Ways to Use Gmail Filters - lifehack.org

Gmail filters can be configured to do far more than just organize incoming mail—they can serve as a productivity system for managing to-dos, follow-ups, reminders, archives, and backups by using advanced search operators, labels, and forwarding rules. The article provides twenty practical examples, including using filters to create GTD-style contexts, automatically sort media files and feeds, protect important emails from deletion, and integrate external services like Twitter, Flickr, and calendar notifications into a searchable Gmail-based workflow. While Gmail filters have limitations (such as inability to mark messages as read or create live smart folders), strategic filter setup can transform Gmail into a multi-functional tool that extends well beyond basic email management.

Speed Up Windows Vista: Use ReadyBoost

Vista's ReadyBoost feature uses USB flash drives to cache disk reads, speeding up random hard drive access without replacing RAM or improving gaming performance. The system encrypts cached data for security, and setup is automatic—just plug in a USB drive and select ReadyBoost from the detection menu, with Windows recommending an optimal cache size. While not equivalent to a RAM upgrade, ReadyBoost offers measurable performance gains for the minimal cost of a flash device.

CSS Hacks

This article documents CSS hacks and filters—exploits of browser bugs and inconsistencies—that target specific browser versions, primarily Internet Explorer 6 and 7, with varying levels of reliability and validity. It categorizes recommended techniques like selector-based hacks (`* html {}`, `*:first-child+html {}`), attribute selector quirks, and the `!important` identifier abuse, alongside unrecommended methods using invalid CSS prefixes (`_property`, `*property`) and malformed pseudo-classes. The article emphasizes that while hacks should be avoided when possible, understanding these options allows developers to weigh consequences and choose the least harmful workarounds for cross-browser layout challenges.
