Baseline.js | Vertical rhythm made easy

Documentation for Baseline.js, a small jQuery/Zepto plugin (with a vanilla JS version by Ben Howdle) that keeps typographic baselines intact when images with odd heights would otherwise knock the vertical rhythm off. You call it on a selector with a baseline height in pixels, a map of breakpoints to baselines for responsive layouts, or a function returning the grid size, such as one that reads the root `rem` font-size as media queries change it. It's WTFPL-licensed, and the page is mostly usage examples and the CSS setup for the function-based approach.

Untitled (http://lifehacker.com/5935550/the-interview-question-that-is-always-asked-and-how-to-nail-it)

An interviewer's advice on the one question every candidate will be asked, "Do you have any questions for us?" The author says it reveals your priorities: a candidate who asked about working from home and how soon he could be promoted was dropped immediately, while saying "no" signals disinterest. The fix is to prepare two or three open-ended questions that get interviewers talking so you can respond by selling yourself, and he offers five examples, including what immediate need the role fills, which projects you could contribute to right away, whether the team is empowered to improve its processes, how the organization defines success, and what a typical day looks like.

Sundry MySQL Scripts and Docs

A page of small MySQL admin shell scripts, headlined by a tuning primer that reads SHOW STATUS and SHOW VARIABLES and recommends settings for the slow query log, connections, threads, key buffer, query cache, sort and join buffers, temp tables, table cache, locking, table scans, and InnoDB (works on 3.23 through 5.1, with recent fixes for awk number formatting, FreeBSD/Mac/Solaris support, and reading memory from /proc/meminfo). It also lists three companions: a replication slave delay tracker using SHOW SLAVE STATUS at one-second granularity, a cron-friendly slave status checker that stays silent unless the IO or SQL thread stops and throttles repeat alerts to every 15 minutes, and a MYSQL_BACKUP.sh script that does daily MyISAM hot backups with binlog flushing, hourly binlog rsync, and InnoDB support via ibbackup.

A spammy listicle ranking free adult hookup apps for casual sex, mostly AdultFriendFinder, One Night Friend, Friends With Benefits, Pure App and CougarD, each with a short pros-and-cons rundown (user base size, video chat, anonymity, niche focus like older women and younger men). It closes with generic safety advice and boilerplate Q&A, and it is padded with affiliate-style ranking blocks and unrelated plugs for offshore betting sites and AI porn tools. The content is thin and promotional, so it's unlikely to hold reliable comparisons; the listed pros and cons contradict each other (for example, Pure App's video chat is described both ways).

A Beginner's Guide to Using the Application Cache - HTML5 Rocks

A 2010 introduction to HTML5's Application Cache, showing how to make a web app work offline by linking a manifest file (served as text/cache-manifest) from each page's html tag. It explains the manifest's CACHE, NETWORK and FALLBACK sections and the key gotcha that the cache only refreshes when the manifest file itself changes, not when the listed resources do. It also covers the window.applicationCache status values, the update() and swapCache() calls, and the event handlers for detecting and applying a new cache version.

trunk8 is a jQuery plugin that truncates text by measuring the container for overflow, rather than cutting at a fixed character count, so it keeps as much text as fits in the available space. Its options cover the filler string (an ellipsis by default, HTML allowed), the number of lines to allow, which side to truncate from (left, right, or center), a tooltip holding the full text, a target width, HTML-structure preservation, and an onTruncate callback. It also offers methods to update the text, revert to the original, and read the current settings. It's MIT-licensed and was written by Rick Viscomi in 2012.

jQuery++

jQuery++ is Bitovi's MIT-licensed set of low-level DOM helpers and special events for jQuery 1.8+, offered as a pick-and-choose download builder, individual files, Steal, or AMD modules. It is not a UI toolkit. Helpers include CSS3-backed animate, node position compare, cookies, formParams serialization, text ranges and selection, and within. The events include delegatable drag/drop, hover, swipe, key names, outside-in resize, destroyed, and pause/resume with default handlers and triggerAsync. The page also covers support channels, how to contribute through the DoneJS repo, and a changelog from the 1.0 beta through 1.0.1 (February 2013).

Mac developer must-haves — Gist

A GitHub gist by Erik Reagan titled "Mac developer must-haves," set up as a crowdsourced list of OS X apps for web developers. The gist itself holds only a short intro, and the real content is meant to live in the comments, where people add links to apps they like along with a note on what each does, taken from the maker's site or their own opinion. The saved copy captured only the page chrome and that intro, so the actual app recommendations aren't visible here.

HTML5 Webcam Toy - Special effects with WebGL and getUserMedia

Webcam Toy is a browser-based photo booth that applies more than 80 free filters, such as Fisheye, Thermal, Comic Book, Kaleidoscope, Night Vision and Watercolor, to a live webcam feed. You can take a single shot or a strip of four, then download the selfies or share them. The page is only the tool's interface, with no real argument or reporting, and it works only in Chrome or Edge and needs camera permission.

I can't summarise this one, because what came through isn't an article. The text is just page scaffolding: fragments like "Desktop Version," "Favorites," "ALL / MINE / FRIENDS," and "Logout," with no body text, headline, or argument. It looks like the save captured a site's navigation menu rather than the piece itself, possibly because the page was behind a login or loaded its content dynamically. If you paste the article's actual text or share the URL again, I'll write the summary.

sjlu/CodeIgniter-Bootstrap · GitHub

CodeIgniter-Bootstrap is a GitHub project (sjlu) that packages CodeIgniter together with the CodeIgniter Rest Server, Bootstrap, Font Awesome, and lodash so you get a ready-made starting stack for PHP web apps. Most users should just download a pre-compiled release and use it like a normal CodeIgniter install, while anyone wanting to change the bundling has to clone the repo and run its makefile, which only works on *nix, to produce a zip. Further CodeIgniter guides live in the project wiki, and it's licensed MIT with CodeIgniter amendments.

jQuery Canvas Kit

The jQuery Canvas Kit (JCK) is a lightweight toolkit that extends the HTML5 Canvas element by handling run-loop and frame management, so developers no longer write their own callbacks or canvas clearing. It adds a live profiler that shows actual frames per second and can be extended with app-specific values (the demo tracks a custom "Dusts" count), and it can stretch the canvas to fill the browser window with dynamic resizing. You enable it on any canvas by passing the element to `jck()`, and the page pitches it as a minimal, performance-minded base for interactive apps and simple games rather than a full game engine, with documentation on a Google Code wiki.
