This is the PBS landing page for Ken Burns's nine-episode documentary *The Civil War*, which premiered in September 1990 to about 40 million viewers and won 40 major awards, including two Emmys and two Grammys. It describes a five-year production covering the war's causes, battles, homefront, and aftermath, and notes the fully restored version that aired in 2015. Most of the page is a hub of companion resources: timelines, casualty facts, primary documents like the Gettysburg Address and the Sullivan Ballou letter, biographies, battle maps, archival photos, an episode guide, and pieces on the 4K restoration from 16mm film and on the music, including "Ashokan Farewell."

The Banality of Genius: Notes on Peter Jackson's Get Back

Ian Leslie argues that [[Peter Jackson]]’s decision to present [[Get Back]] as an eight‑hour chronicle transforms what could have been a tidy highlights reel into an anthropological study of creative life. By lingering on the drab [[Twickenham]] studio, the messy, windowless basement and the quotidian rituals of [[The Beatles]] — flaccid toast, mugs of tea, cigarettes, hangovers, lunchtime routines and offhand jokes — the film compels us to attend to microscopic social signals: looks, smiles, a sigh. That patient, sometimes boring attention produces intimacy; as viewers we start to inhabit the band’s rhythm and feel their small joys and tensions with unusual intensity. Leslie suggests that this banality is the mechanism through which genius is revealed, and that prolonged reportage can reawaken creative urges in audiences and collaborators alike.

HBO Max’s Best New Show Has A Perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score

This three-part HBO documentary traces model Hoyt Richards' 15 years inside Eternal Values, a New Age cult run by self-proclaimed alien prophet Frederick von Mierers, who bled followers of millions before dying in 1990 while concealing his AIDS diagnosis. Because almost nothing exists online about the group or its leader, the series stands as the fullest account yet of the cult and its eventual collapse around 1999, tied partly to Richards' escape from its North Carolina compound. It's notable as HBO Max's best-reviewed current release, sitting at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes even while lower in the platform's viewership rankings than Euphoria and Hacks.

Bleeding Green Nation

Juan Castillo: The American Dream - Bleeding Green Nation

Juan Castillo, the Eagles' new defensive coordinator, is profiled through his journey from the son of immigrants who used sports to build a better life into becoming a relentless, determined coach whose work ethic amazed peers like Jon Gruden and Andy Reid. The feature includes memorable stories like Gruden recounting how Castillo pestered him at the combine until getting a job recommendation, and Reid describing how Castillo drove to Green Bay in December to wait in a parking lot at Lambeau in hopes of meeting him—a demonstration of loyalty that secured Castillo's place when Reid joined the Eagles. The piece also includes footage of Castillo's life in his hometown of Port Isabel, Texas.
